Unlimited running pleasure:

360° TRAIL in the Zugspitz Arena Bavaria-Tyrol

Beginners welcome - easy tours provide a good start to this trendy sport.

From 1 to 3 October, the Zugspitz Arena Bayern-Tirol (ZABT) is hosting the "360° TRAIL" running event, which spans all areas of trail running. While newcomers start with running ABC and easy beginner's tours, advanced runners look forward to exchanging ideas with like-minded people and testing the latest products around the trend sport. Lectures on mountain safety and healthy nutrition as well as workshops from yoga to foot mobility round off the boundless running pleasure. The one-day ticket costs 39 euros, those who want to take part in all three days pay 89 euros.

"Our offer is aimed specifically at people who want to try trail running for once," explains Nicole Fischer from the project management of the Zugspitz Arena Bayern-Tirol association. "After an introduction, we go on easy tours with trained guides, where few kilometres and metres in altitude have to be mastered." For example, the Höhenrain-Runde in Grainau. It leads for just under nine kilometres without any major climbs (a total of about 200 metres in altitude) along hiking trails, including panoramic views of the Zugspitz village as well as the Wetterstein massif.

But advanced runners will also find what they are looking for in the range of tours. For example, the challenging Grubigalmrunde, which starts in Lermoos. It has ten kilometres and almost 750 metres of altitude gain, but it compensates with various views of the Zugspitze (2962 m) on the opposite side. If you are more in the middle, you can, for example, take the short but strenuous route to the Grasberg in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, which is full of views and has a steady climb of three kilometres and about 350 metres in altitude. Tip for a short break: enjoy the mountain panorama at the St. Martin Hut.

In addition to sophisticated tours, the broad-based programme offers product tests, lectures, workshops and side events such as morning runs. "There is a lot of emphasis on safety on the mountain," says Nicky Fischer. "For example, there are tips on tour planning and execution, on the right behaviour in emergency situations and a course on 'First Aid for Trail Running'." But other aspects will also be highlighted, e.g. to what extent a healthy intestinal flora is an important adjusting screw for more performance and when sport is perhaps too much and no longer healthy. Yoga and foot mobility specially designed for runners round off the programme.

The Austrian and Bavarian sides of the Zugspitze offer the perfect infrastructure for trail runners and those who want to become one. The cross-border laps vary in length and difficulty - from 8 to 44 kilometres and from 200 to 2030 metres in altitude. There is also something for everyone in terms of accommodation infrastructure - from farmhouses to
4-star superior hotel.

About the Zugspitz Arena Bavaria-Tyrol

The Zugspitz Arena Bavaria-Tyrol (ZABT)lies on the German and Austrian sides of the Zugspitze and unites the regions of the Tyrolean Zugspitz Arena (with the villages of Ehrwald, Lermoos, Berwang, Biberwier, Bichlbach, Heiterwang am See and Namlos), Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Grainau. The Zugspitze towers over the destination as a prominent peak at 2962 m and is accessible by cable cars from the Bavarian and Tyrolean sides. If you spend your holidays here, you don't have to choose: urban flair in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, charming farmhouses in Grainau, rustic alpine pastures in the Berwangertal valley. The ZABT shows the whole diversity of an Alpine region that is modern and traditional at the same time.
