In former times the castle ensemble East of Reutte was the most important customs station between the Southern and Norther trading routes. Today it is one of the oldest and most important fortresses in Northern Tyrol.

The olympic bobsleigh run at lake Riesserssee was one of the most dangerous runs ever. Numerous championships had been battled and - of course - the bob competitions of the Olympic winter games of 1936.

More than 500 years ago at the valley of Gurgltal and the surrounding valleys serveral mines have been developped. The area around Fernpass and down to Imst was famous for lead ore. Today visitors can experience the hard life of middleage mining life.

Oberammergau is famous for the passion play and - of course - the wood sculptors. The history of both reach back to the middle ages.
Lovers of opera and theatre will have heard a lot of Oberammergau. The world-famous passion play takes place every 10 years. This play goes back to a pledge in the Thirty Years' War. The next passion play will take place in 2020.
Only a few kilometers away, the Abbey of Ettal is situated. The baroque basilica and the rococo sacristy are jewels of architecture and art. Both can be visited. Also worth a visit is the cloisture destillery, the brewery museum and the cheese diary.

The most famous is of course castle Neuschwanstein close to Füssen, situated in the frontier area between Bavaria and Swabia and Tyrol. Not far away also is castle Hohenschwangau.
In the moutnains of Ammergebirge castle Linderhof lies inmidth of a hugh landscape garden. The opulent interior belongs to the second rococo style.
Completely different: The king's house at the Schachen. In the middle of the Garmisch-Partenkirchen mountains, at 1,866 m - and without parking lots and proper roads - this small "castle" of king Ludwig II is build in the style of Swiss chalets. However, even here you will find splendor and grandiosity in the up-stairs so-called turkish salon.

It is astonishing to find such a treasure of a gorgeous church in the middle of such a solitary landscape. On a Saturday in 1738 the peasant woman Maria Lory found tears in the eyes of the figure of the suffering Jesus. This mystic wonder was the beginning of the pilgrimage to the "Gegeißelten Heiland auf der Wies".

Going to Innsbruck you will be welcomed by the impressive skijump at Bergisel above the town centre. This is the place where the Olympic fire burnt twice: 1964 and 1976. Today this skijump is internationally known for the Bergisel-jump as third stop of the Four-Hill-Tournament.
The real landmark for the Tyrolean capital Innsbruck is however located right in the middle of the historical centre, the Golden Roof. This is a pompous bay window with 2,738 golden copper clapboards - just a few minutes walk away from Hofburg and Hofkirche.
