Riessersee | Naturjuwel auf 785 Metern Höhe im Wettersteingebirge

In the South of Garmisch at 785 meters in the Wetterstein Mountains is a historic gem: the Lake Riessersee. The lake dates back to the Middle Ages. At that time the lake was artificially created in a forest clearing. Mount Waxenstein (2,277 meters) and Mount Kramer (1,985) tower behind the picturesque water. When the weather is clear, even the Zugspitze massif is reflected in the water.

The circular route around the lake attracts locals and visitors all year round. In summer, those looking for relaxation will find the cooling they longed for, in winter you can even go ice skating on the lake Riessersee.

Numerous competitions, including the 1936 Winter Olympics, were held on Lake Riessersee. The world-famous Olympic bobsleigh track is also nearby.

Paid parking is available directly at the lake between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m.
