In 1893, the Mannheim cigar manufacturer Georg Ludwig Mayer-Doß (1847 - 1919), who later became an honorary citizen (1895) of Partenkirchen and founder of the Mayer-von Doß'schen charitable foundation had built the villa close to his old house. He named it "Villa Christina" after his wife Christina. The master builder Franz Resch built the historic manor house with tower, bay window, crooked hipped roofs and wooden balconies which was planned by the Mannheim architect Manchot, including the park and the fence. The resistance fighter against National Socialism Albrecht Haushofer, grandson of Georg Ludwig Mayer-Doß, spent much of his youth here.

After the death of Christina Mayer-Doß, the Markt Partenkirchen leased the villa and park in 1930 and built the Kurhaus Partenkirchen in it. In 1950 the building was then bought by the Markt Garmisch-Partenkirchen and the Garmisch-Partenkirchen Kurverwaltung (Tourism office) was housed there until 1999. After the takeover of the Richard Strauss Institute from Munich, the house was renovated and now operates as the Richard Strauss Institute. In addition to scientific work in the reading rooms, guests can also visit an exhibition on the famous Richard Strauss.
