Alte Kirche | Die „Mutterkirche“ im Ortsteil Garmisch
In the picturesque historical quarter in Garmisch you will find the famous Old Parish Church of St. Martin. For a long time, it was the only parish church in the region and the place to go for the faithful from the far reaches of the Loisach and Isar valleys. After the foundation of the original parish of St. Martin around the beginning of the 9th century, the Romanesque church was built around 1280. Magnificent Gothic wall paintings and stained glass windows can be discovered in the old church. Particularly impressive: the seven-meter-high depiction of St. Christopher from 1330 and the Baroque high altar.
