Richard-Strauss-Institut

In 1908, the famous composer Richard Strauss had a villa built in Garmisch-Partenkirchen as his summer residence. From here, he embarked on concert tours to the surrounding artistic metropolises. Many of his famous works were composed in the "Villa Strauss". Until his death in 1949, the place in Upper Bavaria was considered his home. Today, the villa is privately owned by the composer's descendants and is not open to the public.

If you want to find out more about the world-famous composer, head to the Richard Strauss Institute (RSI), housed in the "Villa Christina" in the "Partenkirchen Kurpark". The international Strauss centre houses a permanent exhibition open to the public, a concert hall and a specialist library. Music lovers are in for a treat: the RSI organises numerous symphony and chamber music concerts every year as well as the internationally acclaimed Richard Strauss Festival.
