01. January 2020 | Garmisch-Partenkirchen

The highlight of the ski jumping season.

New year ski jumping is a tradition with us! As part of the Four Hills Tournament, the Olympic Ski Stadium is transformed into a real ski jumping spectacle every year on 1 January. Around 25,000 spectators tremble for their ski jumping favourites when the 50 participants from all over the world plunge down the steep approach of the ski jump and reach a jump distance of up to 138 metres.

In the summer of 1949, when the jumper friends from Innsbruck and Partenkirchen talked for the first time about their idea of a jumper tour in the house "Maier" in Partenkirchen, they were certainly not aware of what an important competition of the ski jumping circus would result from it. On 1 January 1953 this idea became reality and New Year's ski jumping took place for the first time in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

Take part in the exciting and high-class competition of ski jumping, which will take place for the 68th time in 2020. Jumping in Garmisch-Partenkirchen is considered to be the most cultivated of the 4 tour stops. The other jumps will take place in Oberstdorf, Innsbruck and Bischofshofen.
