Parish Church | Bichlbach

Zum heiligen Diakon Laurentius

Ecclesiastically, Bichlbach belonged to the large parish of Breitenwang until 1423, which extended to Mittewald, today's Lähn (diocesan border between Augsburg and Brixen). In 1423 Bichlbach became its own parish, to which Heiterwang belonged until 1616 and Lähn with Wengle until 1948.
The parish church in Bichlbach was mentioned for the first time in 1394, in 1456 it was extended, in 1552 it was plundered by the troops of the Schmalkaldic League (Moritz of Saxony).
The church was rebuilt in 1733 - 36 following the Herkommer-Fischer architecture, renovated in 1848 - 50, interior restored in 1902 - 06 and 1971/72, exterior renovated in 1967, interior and exterior restored in 2013 - 2015.
The interior of the church was designed by the most important artists of the region. Frescoes and Stations of the Cross by the baroque painter family Zeiller from Reutte and by Balthasar Riepp; pulpit by J.R. Ebershard from Hindelang; organ by M. Weber from Oberperfuß.
